balance |ˈbaləns| noun

a mental steadiness or emotional stability; habit of calm behavior, judgement, etc.

When you don’t know what you don’t know, life can seem pretty confusing and chaotic. Writing my way through it helps keep me balanced and a little more honest than what my emotions try to broadcast at first. Walking in the woods or sleeping at the foot of a mountain, listening to the waves on the beach or cooling my feet in a rushing stream - like writing, all of this gives me life and brings my body and soul into balance. But if I never go to the mountains or hike on a trail, if I fearfully hold all the true words in my head without ever sifting through them on pieces of paper, the bright part of me starts to fade. Then my spirit for mothering, for homeschooling, for loving my husband, for giving, for growing, for honoring God starts to fade as well. I used to think that it was a muscle game - if you muscle through it hard enough, everything would work and click. The past few years have taught me that I was never wired that way. Turns out discovering ADHD would open my eyes to a different world, one that certainly knew me there.
