November Reset: Exercise

Exercise is something I really don’t feel like writing about, much less doing right now. So, that probably means it needs a reset in a major way. I always feel better when I exercise, even though I hate doing it. Yes, I know I’m complicated! Did you know physical activity is one of the top treatments for ADHD symptoms? Since 4 out of the 5 people in my household struggle with symptoms from time to time, it would be pretty foolish to ignore the value of exercise in our life. That’s one of the many reasons we incorporate sports into our kids’ lives regularly. Furthermore, healthy movement just makes everything work better. You sleep better. Your brain works better. Your mood is better. Circulation improves. Strengthens bones and muscles. It’s just really important to a healthy mind and body.

I know all this and I suspect you do too, but it is so incredibly easy to neglect exercise when we get busy or tired or stressed or…just about any reason. This summer I focused on coping better with stress. One of the big things I did was to incorporate yoga as a main source of exercise. Mr. Butler did it with me, which made it even better. I do much better with an accountability partner. Since the fall semester started back up, it has been hard to sync up our schedules and I’ve just been busy. Not an excuse, but it is real life. So, we’ll walk a few miles when we are both home in the day, but I have not been diligent with myself in any way. All hopes for a healthy exercise routine isn’t lost just because the vitamin D potential starts to decrease. I know it can feel that way, but that just means my body needs the immune boost even more this time of year.

Maybe you have a gym membership and don’t use it like me because of logistics. We have a Y membership, but I never want to bother getting the kids out. Since they are all old enough and trustworthy to put in the child watch/older kid hangout, maybe I should pick one day a week to at least switch it up? I know that I’m going to try to utilize my bicycle and stationary bike more, get back to yoga regularly and walk with Randy as much as I can. I’ve just not had any reason to follow through. I know that sounds silly, but my ADHD friends will understand. Since I’m writing about it and telling the universe to look at what I’m doing so to speak, well I’ll carry around some guilt if I don’t follow through! And I certainly don’t need anymore of that.

Getting exercise in every day is one of those all or nothing temptations for me. If I intended to do a particular activity at a particular time and then something messed that up? Well, just forget it. The day is lost. That’s the wrong approach of course, but it is sooo tempting to my brain that craves order and over reacts in the most rigid of ways. For this exercise reset, I’m striving to include movement - even if it isn’t what I intended when I woke up that day - every day. Tomorrow I’m going to use my watch that’s been dead for a month and haven’t bothered to find the charger until tonight. I’m hoping I’ll have an easy 10,000 steps without too much work, but I haven’t been tracking for a while so I’m not sure. Either way, having a minimum goal and then trying to improve upon that will hopefully jumpstart my motivation.

More than anything, a reset is intended to help us focus on what’s important and valuable rather than what is convenient and thoughtless. Finishing a meal and then sitting for another hour until bedtime is thoughtless and convenient, but it isn’t necessarily important or valuable. Playing soccer as a family for 20 minutes or walking to the pond or doing some yoga not only feeds the health of your physical body, but it can connect you to those around you, get you outside in many cases and bring joy into you’re life too! Do you have a good workout routine? Are you recommitting to one this week? It would encourage me to hear about it so let me know how it’s going!

November Reset

As the beginning of November chimes, I don’t want to be rushed into and out of the events of the next several weeks. While it feels futile to fight the rush sometimes, I need reminding that it isn’t too late to reset some things in my life. We have so much more control of our lives than we often are willing to admit and the weeks before Thanksgiving are a great opportunity to take back what is mine. If I want to make healthier choices, learn a new skill or grow closer to someone, the days ahead of me are unwritten and wide open for any of that. I just have to reset my thoughts and intentions with that in mind. So, that’s what we are going to do. My October was really pretty good, but even if it wasn’t, November can be beautiful.

My oldest child was born in November and my end of the year memories were forever colored by his first infant days. It didn’t matter what the rest of the world was doing, Randy and I were beginning to wade in the ocean of parenthood for the very first time. I never want to forget that spark of excitement and awe in the air. So much of it was so terribly hard, but still, I couldn’t deny that I had done this incredibly hard thing and lived to tell about it. There is hope in November to climb a mountain, to start again and to be filled with joy. So, all month I’m going to be writing about different ways I need to reset. I hope you’ll join me and share how you are resetting this month. Follow me on Instagram where I’ll be sharing more ideas and maybe some videos about it.

Online Reading Program: A Reading Eggs Review

DISCLOSURE: I RECEIVED THIS COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCT THROUGH THE HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

I have always been an advocate of off-line learning whenever possible. I still subscribe to that idea, but I think the realm of possibility has changed. It has grown increasingly unrealistic to stay offline entirely and some online programs and learning have proven themselves highly effective and useful. Reading Eggs is certainly one of the programs that fits into that category. We have been blessed to review this product several times and I’ve gotten to see all three of my children use it at various points of their reading journey. This experience certainly has given me confidence in adequately describing its strengths and weaknesses.

What We Received:

We received a one year subscription for 3 children. Since we have had a subscription to Reading Eggs before, it kept all three kids information and achievements so they could pick up where they left off.

How It Works:

If you are new to homeschooling or new to Reading Eggs, this program is designed to making reading and literacy fun and motivating. The program is designed for students age 2-13 with different sections based on age or skill level. The different sections are Reading Eggs Junior (age 2-4), Reading Eggs (3-7), Fast Phonics (5-10), Reading Eggspress (7-13) and Math Seeds (3-9) is their math equivalent program. Everything except for Math Seeds runs on Egg currency where you earn eggs for everything you complete and you can use those eggs to purchase things like clothes, furniture and accessories for your Egg person. Math Seeds has its own avatar and uses acorns instead of eggs, but on the same concept. Each user has the option to start at the beginning of each section (Junior, Reading Eggs, Eggspress) but can always take a placement test to determine a different level than just the beginning. The whole program covers everything from letter recognition all the way up to literature and reading comprehension skills. So even if your child already knows how to read, there is still a wealth of activities and growth provided in Reading Eggs.

What We Thought:

Everyone loves the feeling of money in the bank. Kids are no different. My children have always loved Reading Eggs, largely because they can do some ‘work’ and then get ‘paid’. And what do you do when you get paid? Shopping! So, Reading Eggs is a kid favorite in my household. My 11 year old and 9 year old still ask to do it when they are supposed to be doing school work but don’t like what they have in front of them. It’s often a happy medium because I know it teaches and sharpens their skills but they also think of it as a game. My 5 year old is learning to read and he is the one expected to use the program the most right now simply because it progresses his reading and he can do most of it without help. My biggest hang up with online programs has been screen time and not enough pen and pencil work. Reading Eggs offers all kinds of worksheets and even a full curriculum for homeschooling that allows the parents to use Reading Eggs online or offline however much they choose. And as far as online learning programs, you just can’t get much better than Reading Eggs. If you’re in the market for an online program to supplement or for full reading curriculum, this is a great choice!

Blue Skies West: An Appaloosy Books Review

DISCLOSURE: I RECEIVED THIS COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCT THROUGH THE HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

One of the things I have loved about being on the Homeschool Review Crew has been the exposure to authors and series that we never would have known about otherwise. Even things you encounter rarely fall into the category of items you’re willing to spend money on without knowing much about it. A few years ago, we were introduced to Mattie Richardson’s Horses in History Series through a review that certainly fed my children’s love for all things horses. Getting the chance to read her latest, Blue Skies West from Appaloosy Books has been a real bonus treat for them, especially my daughter.

What We Received:

We received one 140-page paperback book, Blue Skies West - As told by: BLUE, A Horse on the Oregon Trail from Appaloosy Books in a beautiful turquoise package that included her autograph on the first page too!

How It Works:

The Horses in History series is designed to teach readers more about important events in U.S. History. By telling stories through the perspective of the horses, readers are engaged in a much different way than most history books offer. Blue Skies West introduces you to what it was like traveling on the Oregon Trail years ago, complete with hardships, struggles and deaths. As the author discusses in the back of the book, she does not shy away from the tragic realities of history but strives to remain as historically accurate as possible while treating them with sensitivity. Using dialogue and movements from the horses, there is an element of fairy tale that sweetens up the hard parts but facilitates an added dimension of historical perspective.

What We Thought:

A homeschoolers favorite thing is to combine two or more subjects at once in ways that reinforce everything in a better way than on their own. Horses, history and reading are combined in Blue Skies West and we love it! We will certainly hit historical events in our history curriculum, but this avenue allows all kinds of things to seep in and stick far longer than a straightforward history lesson. Even more interesting is that Mattie Richardson, the author, wrote her first Horses in History book when she was 13 years old! Her story and career are a great example of someone pursuing goals long before adulthood. Supporting her as an author and sharing the fruits of her labor with my family is satisfying thing. My 9 year old daughter is the one who read this one (though her and her 11 year old brother have read all of her others) and she said it was just as good as the others! When I asked her about it, she assured me it was really good except there were some sad parts, where a couple of kids die. She didn’t mention them while she was reading the book though so I don’t think it disturbed her reading or anything. From an educational perspective, this book could set the stage for a further dive into the historical events as a unit study. My children are wild about horses so these are the perfect enticement for engagement and further learning.

The Change in the Air

The curse of being young is that you don’t know what you don’t know. There’s no way you could. The curse of age is that you now know what you didn’t know but have no way of going back. Maybe there is something about maturity that teaches you when it’s time to let go of those regrets you can do nothing about. Today as I type, the changes are circling my life. Some things are speeding up, like the growth and activity of my children, and other things are winding down, like my use of a stroller or teaching the ABCs. My oldest is going to be 12 in a month and my baby isn’t a baby at all at 5 years old, learning to read. My marriage is 16 years old and still we’re learning how to show up and be better together than we have in the past. I’ve spent several years reviewing homeschool curriculum but that is changing in the near future. We have been active in our co-op for a few years but this year it has increased drastically. All three kids are in our local homeschool choir and 2 of them get the chance to be part of a state honor choir this year. Mr. Butler and I had the unique chance to sing in choir together in college and it is one of our favorite memories together. Our kids getting the chance to experience a taste of that and loving it makes me a bit weepy, I’ll admit. Learning about ADHD a few years ago and now having the ability to recognize what system is failing and why in order to remedy meltdowns and outbursts is a little surreal. So much is changing while there’s so much I wish I could go back and do differently.

There was a time when I longed to be married, to have children, to be an accepted adult. Oh, how I wish I could talk to that girl and reassure her of a few things and teach her many more. There are relationships that I had that I wish I would have nurtured differently. There are opportunities that I wish I hadn’t been so afraid of. There are choices that I wish I had responded differently to. That regret has eaten me up at times, especially when I worry that my choice might have neglected someone. I have worried about or felt responsible for many a foolish choice by people I love. They were never my responsibility, but my heart has resisted accepting that. So, as the leaves are changing and the weather is cooling off, my spidey sense knows things are changing elsewhere too. One of those big changes is a choice I’ve delayed in making for far too long. Those regrets, those missed chances or balls dropped, I am going to let them go. The foolishness of youth can’t be deleted in the scheduled future. There are only the wise priorities of maturity and age that matter today. When my daughter was 2, I fought with her a lot on taking naps. She would throw fits and I would get so worn out and stressed. I should have just laid down with her to help her sleep. I regret all the stress that I experienced and caused because I didn’t understand what was going on with either one of us. I feel responsible for that stage in her life that could have gone better. It is tempting to lean in to the misery of regret. I should have done so much better, but I can’t do ANYTHING about it now. But I can take joy in how often that same girl wants to sit next to me or hold my hand as we walk. I can be forever grateful that I now understand how important it is for her to stay home sometimes or not go too long without eating. She and I don’t do big roller coasters. She takes comfort in knowing that she can decline any ride she wants because I will always stay with her and then ride milder ones with her. I need to let go of the inflamed part of our relationship from a few years ago and cling to the beautiful one still unfolding in front of me.

There are relationships that I’ve been waiting on to turn around and fill my needs too. There are boundaries that I’ve hoped others would respect without much of a word from me. There are responsibilities that were never mine to begin with that I’ve carried far too long. It’s time to embrace and appreciate what is instead of living in agony over what isn’t. Change is never easy but sometimes you are given gifts that help you know it’s time. My mama heart for having more kids was convicted otherwise after my 3rd pregnancy and all of its challenges. The perpetual pain of rejection can push you into moving on eventually. There just comes a time when you realize there’s no use in wasting anymore time on the things that aren’t serving you or other people. I’m thankful that I’m finally turning that corner.

Due to all the changes in my life, my personal writing has taken a back seat and I’ve only taken time to focus on reviews lately. As things are shifting even more, I hope to spend more time using this platform for personal writing purposes. I miss it. I need it. It’s where I really started anyway and I’m ready to go back there. Writing about what happened helps you process and learn from what happened. It’s a truth that I’ve gotten away from in the name of busy-ness but I’m learning I need to get back there to keep it all together. Here’s to change…

Pre-Algebra: A TabletClass Math Review

DISCLOSURE: I RECEIVED THIS COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCT THROUGH THE HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

One of the saddest yet most common stories I hear is about someone’s overlooked experience with math. Maybe they never really understood fractions or they just kept getting passed even though they were failing miserably. Math is a vital and wonderful thing, when you understand it! But if you get lost and stay lost, it is the most unwelcome place. For as many different types of learners there are, there should always be twice as many teaching tools available to ensure mathematical understanding and success. Today I get to talk about a resource that we can add to that list of curriculum options. We are looking at the Pre-Algebra course from TabletClass Math.

What We Received:

We were given a year’s access to the Pre-Algebra online course from TabletClass Math.

How It Works:

TabletClass Math is an online program that offers math classes for Middle School, High School, College, and Test Prep and advertises clear and understandable teaching methods that anyone can be successful with. The course we were given, Pre-Algebra, came with a Homeschool Parents Portal along with the student’s course. In this Parents Portal, I have access to information regarding the course, student requirements and suggestions, all of the chapter tests, answer keys, final exam, grade calculation help and a course certificate. In the Course Portal, we have access to the Pre-Algebra course which includes 16 chapters of instructional videos, practice problems, video solutions, pdf files of extra practice pages, chapter review notes, quizzes and answer keys. Students are given thorough instructions on study habits, order of procedures, and encouragement for succeeding in the course, including not moving forward until the current material is understood. The purpose is mastery at every turn with lots of opportunity to practice and prepare for quizzes and exams.

What We Thought:

My son has just started 6th grade and I thought dipping his toe into Pre-Algebra might be helpful. It was helpful, but more to tell me he isn’t quite ready for it yet. He watched a few videos and tried some of the practice problems with a little success, but a lot of struggle. The struggle was not with any method or the program itself. There were just too many elements he hadn’t encountered before. That being said, if he was further along in math by a year, we would be using this program. For homeschooling and working at the student’s pace, a mastery-based program works really well. With TabletClass Math being an online based curriculum, it might not work for those looking for book and paper only programs, but the videos are extremely helpful and paper and pencil is mandatory either way. This course is a complete Pre-Algebra package with review material, exams, and answer keys and nothing else is needed to be purchased for a full math curriculum. If you’re taking the step into math beyond elementary school, this program is a great place to learn and prep for the future.

Otter B Free: A Focus on the Family Book Review

DISCLOSURE: I RECEIVED THIS COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCT THROUGH THE HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

There was a time when parents felt assured that if they took their children to church, sent them to a good school and provided well for them, that spiritual success was imminent. Even if that was the case in years passed, that is a foolish and unlikely assumption in our modern world. The devil has sewn such confusion and immoral ideas into the very basics of human life that is now saturating everything our families encounter these days. As parents, we have to be diligent to help our kids sift through it all and throw out was is poisoned and cultivate what is pure. The best way to do that is with resources that support an engaged relationship and teach Biblical truths. Today’s review is from such a fun series that gives parents lots of opportunities to build up their children’s character. We’re talking about Otter B Free from Focus on the Family.

What We Received:

We received one hard back book, Otter B Free from Tyndale Publishing and Focus on the Family. It is 23 pages long with bright and colorful illustrations.

How It Works:

Otter B Free is book number nine in the Otter B children’s book series. This series follows Otter B through all kinds of Biblical character traits and opportunities to grow in those areas. Otter B Free capitalizes on The United State’s national holiday, Independence Day and talks about what freedom and independence mean from a Biblical perspective.

My brothers and sisters, you were chosen to be free.

But don’t use your freedom as an excuse to live under the power of sin.

Instead, serve on another in love.

Galatians 5:13

The freedom we gain in Christ has often been misunderstood and used as a judgement against Christians. Even in Bible times, Paul scolded his readers by rejecting using this freedom as an excuse to sin more. Instead, this freedom is our opportunity to do good to those around us. Otter B exhibits very normal, human emotion in wanting to win the big trophy and take advantage of the best competitor having to sit out of the race, but we experience the words of his father and scripture change his perspective as he experiences the sadness and disappointment of Felicia, who is sitting out with a broken leg. Otter B’s greatest success in my opinion is looking for a solution that helps everyone, rather than just satisfying one of them. In most any quarrel, getting parties to consider a third alternative is the greatest challenge.

What We Thought:

I had heard of the Otter B series before, but I don’t believe I had ever read one before now. After this experience, I would highly recommend the series to families with children. In teaching in general it is so valuable to have the information coming from multiple sources. In character building, it is sometimes even more important to solidify understanding and conviction. Fill you children’s lives with books, characters, and programs that reinforce Biblical living and behavior. There plenty of things in the world that will challenge their faith, but it is our job to make sure they have a rich foundation in the things that matter. This book is a wonderful example of a small way you can add to the riches of that foundation.

Light of Mine: A Towers of Light Christian Resources Review

DISCLOSURE: I RECEIVED THIS COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCT THROUGH THE HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

The world is a scary and difficult place, there’s no denying. One of the motivations to homeschool is to avoid some of the ugliness in the world, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t prepare them for the hardships and difficult choices that will undoubtedly face in their life. Many of those times will be when their parents are not around. Shouldn’t our children fill their heads with courageous characters who are willing to guard and protect what’s most important? For today’s review, we’re talking about a book and its accompanying resources, Light of Mine Unit Study - Premium from Towers of Light Christian Resources LLC.

What We Received:

We received Light of Mine Unit Study - Premium from Towers of Light Christian Resources LLC. which included the paperback book Light of Mine by Allen Brokken, 2 workbooks, 2 Pathway Personal Players and USB Drive. Along with the players, we were given two sets of headphones, 2 lanyards and 2 connection cables.

How It Works:

Light of Mine is a novel that combines fun and fantasy with the real fight of good verses evil. A 12 year old girl and her two little brothers must protect the Tower of Light on the farm that will guide their parents home. It is a book full of adventure and examples of faith and courage. The book is complete to be read on its own entirely. The workbook, however, is a great supplement that facilitates reading comprehension, vocabulary, scripture memorization, journal prompts, puzzles, hands-on activities, thought-provoking questions and a few coloring pages. There are even some fun jokes sprinkled in here and there! The workbook is intended for grades 3-6 and has a suggested pace of 4 weeks to complete, though going slower would easily be possible. The audio book/USB drive, as well as the personal players are a great bonus for listening as a family or for the reader who struggles. The USB drive even contains two bonus files of music. None of the supplemental resources are required to read the novel, but they do enhance the experience greatly!

What We Thought:

When we received this package, my two oldest children (11 and 9) were really excited and impressed at all the things we were given and that each had a personal inscription. All together it was a very generous gift and resource to our family. The book is a magical adventure that weaves scripture and faith throughout the chapters, which is a major plus for me. My daughter, the nature and animal lover, especially enjoyed the magical animals and you can never go wrong with a good coloring page! When you combine all the items together, it really is a great unit study that could be such a fun addition to your homeschool.

The Adventure Begins: A Jonathan Park Review

DISCLOSURE: I RECEIVED THIS COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCT THROUGH THE HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

This week our co-op classes are starting up for the fall, soccer season has begun and our family is attempting to get back into the swing of things, but it can be hard. Being on the Homeschool Review Crew adds another layer of responsibilities and deadlines to the mix and it can make me weary. I’ve been asked before why I don’t just quit doing reviews since I’ve done it for several years now. Today’s review is a perfect example of why I still continue to do them. We live on one income and there isn’t a job I’ve found that will not take away from my family in a major way and while my husband provides for us very well, there’s no way we would can afford to just buy all the homeschool things on the regular just because they might be interesting. Jonathan Park is something I’ve seen advertised for probably a year or two, but have never investigated it. Today we’re reviewing The Adventure Begins, Series 1 from Jonathan Park and I’m happy to say it is a family favorite right now! I continue to participate in the Review Crew because I get a unique opportunity to explore resources - that often reinforce a Christian worldview - that I rarely would spend money on not knowing if it was worth it.

What We Received:

We received The Adventure Begins, Series 1 from Jonathan Park which included 4 audio CDs. Each CD contains over an hour’s worth of listening time.

How It Works:

This adventure series is intended to be listened to in order as it follows Jonathan and his father on adventures in a dinosaur graveyard. The conflict of a creation-based perspective and modern science’s big bang ideas is acknowledged in throughout the episodes as the characters work to preserve the archeological finds for a creation science museum. A Biblical worldview is well-represented while the characters also have to deal with realistic negative reactions from outside perspectives. It has all the markers of a great adventure with good guys and bad guys, Bible studies and dinosaur bones!

What We Thought:

For this review, my kids were 11, 9 and 5 years old. After listening to the first episode, they always asked to listen to the next one. That’s always a good sign! The characters provide a little something for everyone. My oldest (a boy) likes the Jonathan character, my daughter likes Jesse, and my 5 year old just likes the dog and finding all the bones! We aren’t finding dinosaur bones in our yard, but it is always nice to hear characters and stories my kids can relate to. Wrestling with circumstances where people don’t always see the world the same is our daily life in so many ways. I love that my kids can get a balanced understanding of that from places other than me. As a homeschool mom, there’s always more to do than time enough to do it in, but finding excellent resources for my family andt he future is worth a few extra deadlines!

14:16 - The Way: A Scripture Memory Fellowship Review

DISCLOSURE: I RECEIVED THIS COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCT THROUGH THE HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW.

When money is tight, settling for a cheaper imitation is often the best we can do. When handling our children’s spiritual health and eternal future, we can’t afford to feed them watered down truths. There is a lot of spiritual parts floating around in our society, but it’s really hard to build the full picture from any of them. Learning to study the whole Bible and allowing scripture be the basis for all understanding takes work. As a homeschooling family, we are familiar with being the most important advocate in our children’s lives in so many areas, but their spiritual education is the biggest job there is. So it brings me extra joy to share with you a resource that brings students directly to scripture. For today’s review we are looking at 14:6 - The Way from Scripture Memory Fellowship, a scripture memory course on salvation.

What We Received:

We received 14:6 - The Way, a scripture memory course on salvation. It is a spiral-bound note pad with sturdy cardstock pages. The text recommends downloading an app, VerseLocker, to help with memorizing, which we did for free.

How It Works:

This scripture memory course is made up of 7 units of four lessons highlighting concepts of salvation. In each lesson there are 3 verses to memorize that address the study on salvation. Each lesson has a particular icon that can help you remember the subject of the verse. On the backside of the verse page, there is a Consider the Meaning page where the verse is dissected a bit more with context and comprehension questions. All is taken directly from scripture, not loosely based on it. There are different paces (Green, Orange or Brown) and levels (Bronze, Silver, or Gold) that you can expect out of yourself or students. Depending on your time and ability, these are the recommended pace options:

1 verse weekly = Green
2 verses weekly = Green + Orange
3 verses weekly = Green + Orange + Brown

To determine your level of success in reciting your verses, Scripture Memory Fellowship recommends:

Bronze - two helps

Silver - one help

Gold - zero helps

The ultimate goal that is included in each lesson is encouragement to share what you are learning with others. One of the other things it recommends is the free app VerseLocker. This app allows you several ways to work on verse memorization including picking the next word out of a list, remembering with only initials of the words or just typing it out on your own with the app correcting you. The app itself offers ways to connect with others if multiple friends are using the app too.

What We Thought:

The notebook itself is quite sturdy and promises to last beyond a first use. With one book and a whole family (most of which do not have their own devices), we used this program audibly a lot. It was easy to assign a verse to be written out and then discuss the meaning questions together as a group. With the grouping of verses in a topical format not only does this program support memorization, but it sets you up for Bible study alone or in a group. With the app added to the mix, there are so many resources to support learning and memorization. The final question is how can you use them best for your needs! There’s not wrong way besides just not using them and not growing in scripture.
